“Round and Round” — the water cycle
- The sun heats the water, it rises up high,
- Evaporation, turning to vapor in the sky.
- It cools into clouds, condensation's the name,
- Then precipitation — rain falls again!
- Collection in oceans, rivers and lakes,
- The water cycle repeats — that's all it takes!

The four stages of the water cycle
1. Evaporation
The sun heats water in oceans, lakes and rivers. It turns into an invisible gas called water vapor and rises into the air.
2. Condensation
High in the sky the air is cooler, so water vapor cools down and turns back into tiny droplets. Those droplets form clouds.
3. Precipitation
When cloud droplets join together and get too heavy, they fall back to Earth as rain, snow, sleet or hail.
4. Collection
The water gathers in oceans, rivers, lakes and underground. Then the sun heats it again and the cycle starts over.
